Frequently Asked Questions

Eligibility

I am not based in Oregon. Am I able to take this training?

Yes. People outside of Oregon are welcome and invited to apply. Attendance at the four-day opening and closing training intensives is required for program completion. People may choose to join this training on their path to licensure, or for their own personal growth and discovery.

Do I need to be a licensed therapist or mental health professional to participate in the training?

No licensed professional background is necessary to participate in the training. While no clinical or academic prerequisites are required for eligibility, lived experience and caring profession/paraprofessional experience is helpful.

Do I need to have had personal experience with psychedelics and/or a non-ordinary state of consciousness to participate in the training?

Prior personal experience with psychedelics is not a prerequisite for applying or participating in the program. Experiential practicum will be consent-based. It will include exploration of ceremony and expanded states via non-substance modalities, such as breath work and traditional Indigenous ceremonies, as well as working with substances within legal parameters.

Is your program only for BIPOC, LGBTQ2S+ or low income folks?

Alma welcomes everyone with shared values and a commitment to psychedelic healing and serving marginalized communities.

Payments & Tuition

How much is tuition?

Total program tuition is $11,600, with a $50 application fee and a $100 enrollment fee. The total cost of the program is $11,750.

What payment methods do you accept?

Alma Institute accepts all major credit and debit cards, as well as direct bank transfer. Please contact us if there is an issue.

What happens if I can’t pay my tuition on time?

Accepted applicants who do not pay tuition on time will be marked as deferred and placed on a priority waitlist for a future cohort. Please reach out to us if payment is an issue. Enrolled students who miss a payment will only be able to graduate or receive a certificate of completion once past due charges are fulfilled.

Do you offer scholarships?

Alma is a small nonprofit committed to making our training program accessible, and we acknowledge that cost is often a major barrier. We are proud that 50% of our 2023 cohort has received tuition assistance, and we remain committed to our vision of at least 50% of participants receiving financial aid in future cohorts! You can Donate Now to support Alma’s scholarship fund or Contact Us to sponsor a student or become a major supporter.

Certification & Licensure

Will I be a licensed facilitator when I graduate?

In addition to the Core Training, graduates who wish to become a licensed facilitator must complete the required 40 hour practicum, take the OPS facilitator exam, and apply for a license through the OPS Training program, Licensing, and Compliance (TLC) system. The Alma Institute will work to support graduates after program completion, but we cannot guarantee licensure for any students or graduates.

Is my licensure cost included in the cost of the program?

The cost of facilitator licensure and the OPS facilitator regulations exam are not included in Alma’s tuition. Please see the Measure 109 resources at the end of this page for information about those additional costs:

Can I receive continuing education credit for my psychotherapy license in this program?

Currently, our training does not confer CE credits. We are working on offering CE credits in a future cohort.

Are in-person intensives accessible?

What information is available regarding the Practicum?

Alma Institute will provide practicum experience in accordance with OHA guidelines to prepare students to pursue licensure under Measure 109. The practicum will consist of 30 hours of direct experience with altered states, in both the client and facilitator role, and 10 hours of supervision. Experientials will take place in person. They will be consent-oriented and, within the container the Alma is offering, co-created with the students and supervision team.
